The Fab Five: Essentials for the Ultimate Spring 2014 Look

New York Fashion Week may be over, but it’s given us a few ideas about the clothes and accessories that we’ll all be wearing for the next few months.

spring break

From bare midriffs and bomber jackets to sassy accessories and Diesel watches, the new fashion season has lots of great styles for every young woman to choose from. Read on and find out the five essential items that no fashionista should be without this spring.

Pastel Colours

The catwalks at New York Fashion Week were full of designers extoling the virtues of pastel colours. From soft pinks to baby blue and barely-there lilacs, the colours of your spring wardrobe should match the colours of a new season. Aim for soft, cool colours to really stand out on those cold spring mornings.

Crop Tops

It’s the fashion trend that shows no signs of stopping, which is great news for women with washboard stomachs. The crop top has been a staple of the celebrity wardrobe for around a year and this year it looks set to inject some extra attitude into every spring look. Wear it with distressed denim jeans for a grungy feel, or with shorts and boots for the ultimate punk throwback.

Sheer Clothing

One of the more surprising things about many designer collections this year was the addition of sheer tops, dresses and skirts. With crop tops a firm favourite, it seems designers have started thinking about other ways to showcase a bit of flesh without going too far. Wear a sheer top with a cute, brightly coloured vest or bra, if you’re feeling bold, to make the most of this new trend.

Bomber Jackets

We’ve all owned one at some point in our lives, but the bomber jacket has exploded onto the catwalk and into the high street. This season the humble but versatile bomber jacket is edgier than ever, with adventurous bright colours, new textures and fabrics, and some sport-inspired detailing, such as mesh weaving and perforations.

Strong Accessories

Jewellery will never go out of style, and this season, the emphasis was on statement pieces such as stacking rings, pastel-coloured jewels and chunky time pieces. Offset a delicate spring look with a statement watch, or a pair out outrageous diamond stud earrings that will catch the sun and turn heads this season.

Spring collections are always really good fun to look at and lust after, but which trends are you most excited about this season? Are there any trends or fashions you’d like to see make a comeback?
