"Plamegate" film to star Russell Crowe?

That's right. According to an article by Shawn Adler, director Doug Liman has named Russell Crowe on his short list of actors he'd love to cast as Joe Wilson. Wilson, you may recall is the author of the op-ed from the New York Times called, “What I Didn’t Find in Africa”, which brought to light the fact that the Bush administration was lying about yellow-cake uranium purchased by Iraq. After the release of the op-ed, Joe's wife, Valerie Plame was outed by “Washington Post” columnist Robert Novak as a covert CIA operative. The leak led all the way back to the White House, and ultimately led to the trial and conviction of Scooter Libby, who worked for VP Dick Cheney.
According to the article by Adler, Liman said, "I’d love Russell Crowe...If you’ve met Joe, he’s a really strong guy. I’ve never met an actor stronger than Russell Crowe."
I can really see Russell sinking his teeth into a role like this. He is at his best when portraying real characters in an emotional setting. If the film is done well, and tells the story honestly, I think that it could be a dynamite piece of cinema, and Russell is a grade A actor who would do justice to a complex individual such as Wilson.
Can't wait to see how this story develops. We'll keep you posted!
