Guy Ritchie Saddened by Madonna's Failed Adoption
April 4th 2009 02:33
In my view, this is the definition of a Class Act. Although Guy Ritchie and Madonna are recently divorced, and were rumored to be butting heads regarding custody of their children, Guy Ritchie has released a statement regarding his ex-wife's rejected adoption attempt:
Madonna had recently flown the Malawi to adopt a three-year-old girl, Chifundo “Mercy” James. The adoption process was stalled after a Malawi judge denied her request. You may recall that Malawi is the African nation where Madonna and Guy Ritchie adopted their son, David Banda.
Malawian law requires prospective parents to be resident in the country for 18-24 months before an adoption is granted. This was waived in the case of David's adoption. Malawi's Information Minister had publicly backed the adoption of Mercy, but Judge Chondo said that allowing Madonna, 50, to adopt Mercy could place other children at risk by opening the doors to child traffickers.
Madonna and her lawyers plan to appeal the decision.

“Madonna is a fantastic and loving mother who cares deeply about her own children, and children who may need additional help and support,” Guy said in a statement.

“I fully supported Madonna in her decision to apply for this adoption, and I am saddened that her application has been rejected,” his statement continued. “She is motivated only by being a caring parent who seeks to share some of the advantages and opportunities that her life has given her.
“This time it did not work out, but there will be other opportunities and I wish her well in them. She is a great mum,” Guy’s statement concluded.

At least I make my sources known, unlike a lot of other bloggers who read articles and reprint the info as their own!
