Yes yes yes yes yesssssss!
Ok, now that I got that out of my system.....
Finally, the long awaited details are being spilled on the new film by Neveldine/Taylor (the team that brought us sexy Statham in Crank and Crank: High Voltage).
The film which was tentatively named "Game" and then "Citizen Game" now has a final title. That title is "Gamer" and I am so satisfied!
This tasty little screen shot is courtesy of the sexy ladies of GBGals.com. King Leonidas, we missed you!
The film stars my main man Gerard Butler as well as Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), John Leguizamo, Kyra Sedgwick, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, and a whole host of familiar names and faces.
According to IMDb.com:
Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Butler) from a game called "Slayers" looks to regain his independence while taking down the game's mastermind (Hall).
Here is the exciting trailer:
Now, some of you may be saying, "Hmmmm that sounds suspiciously like Death Race or The Running Man." Certainly there are some superficial similarities, but over all I think this film will be very different. According to the very bad ass site that was just launched for the film, Gamerthemovie.com, the film will dabble in the concept of mind control technology, and this technology threatens to leak out of the "game" and into the real world.
I for one simply cannot wait, and this time not just because my secret boyfriend is the star, but also because I am one of those rare ladies that loves video games. Having managed a Video Game/DVD store at one time, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in all that the gaming world had to offer, and I was hooked. I like everything from puzzle games to RPG (Role Playing Games) to first person shooters. So the gamer side of my twisted brain is going bananas in anticipation of this flick!
The other thing the movie has going for it in my mind is that gritty near future feel. Being the geek-girl that I've already established that I am, I LOVE this genre. That dystopian, Beyond Thunderdome, world gone amok style is one of my favorites, and I eat it up!
Some of my other favorites in a similar vein are Nineteen Eighty-Four(naturally), The Handmaid's Tale, Blade Runner, Soylent Green, and V for Vendetta. That's just to name a few!
The film is released on September 4th. I'll be there with bells on! I predict this is going to be a HUGE film for Gerry. Perhaps even elevating him to that mega star status where he belongs!
