Beta Book Review-"Men in Kilts"

For this week's book review, I chose the charming and sexy book by Katie MacAlister, "MEN IN KILTS"
In this novel, our heroine, Kathie Williams is an American mystery writer who travels to London to attend a Mystery writer's conference. Kathie is delightfully quirky and endearing from page one.
When she arrives in England, she is terribly jet lagged, and as she waits for the conference to begin, she falls asleep in the hotel lobby, and makes quite a spectacle of herself. It is at this conference where she meets the dashing Scotsman, Iain MacLaren. Through a series of events, they end up talking, and it appears to be love at first sight.
After a passionate night in London, Iain invites her to spend some time with him in Scotland. Although her better judgment tells her no, she agrees. They've only just met, she cannot resist the Alpha Scot.
This is where the fun really begins. As they arrive in Scotland, she realizes that the man that she has fallen for is a sheep farmer, living deep in the Scottish highlands. Kathie is a city girl, and very much out of her element.
She also comes to find out that Iain is a divorced father of two sons, one of whom thinks she is a tramp and treats her very poorly. Then, there is the problem of Iain's neighbor, who shows up on the scene right away, acting as though she is Iain's girlfriend!
The heart of the book is the blossoming relationship between Kathie and Iain. They are in love right away, and the plot of the book does not drag us through a "will they or won't they" scenario. We know how deeply they feel for each other, and the real story is in how they relate to one another as they navigate their way through their strange new lives together.
Although I am a fan of the Alpha male, I am not always a fan of romance novels, as they tend to be a bit overly dramatic, and rarely seem plausible. And, while the whirlwind romance in "Men in Kilts" may on the surface seem a bit hard to fathom, you will find yourself relating to Kathie and her struggles to understand her man, and embrace a lifestyle that is so foreign, and yet so warm and real.
The book is steamy and sweet, and has some real belly laughs in the mix. I highly recommend.
And while we are on the topic of men in kilts...I simply could not resist one more plug for my man, Gerry Butler. Happy Reading!
